Maimane addres residents at Town Hall

Spokesperson indicates that polls show less than 50 per cent support for ANC in Gauteng.

Premiership candidate and national spokesperson for the DA Mmusi Maiman said his party can solve many problems in the province when addressed residents at the Roodepoort Town Hall on 10 April.

Maimane was welcomed by a small group of supporters as he he appeared from his now famous campaign touring bus. Outside the hall there was a small number of ANC supporters singing and dancing, claiming that they had the right to also attend the meeting.

After some party videos were shown Maimane took to the stage under heavy applause.

Maimane covered most of the same subjects as on his last visit to Florida late last year with heavy emphasize on job creation which is in line with the party’s election slogan of “Together for jobs, Together for change”.

The DA spokesperson explained to the people that government cannot create sustainable jobs, saying that entrepreneurship, internships and skills transfers had to be promoted. He also told the crowd that, should the DA take Gauteng in the elections, government buildings will be rented to entrepreneurs with unique ideas for as little as R1 a year.

Maimane said he is saddened by the fact that in his 35 000km travels of the province he had to hear from residents that “Zuma’s cattle and chickens have a better quality of life than them”.

On the subject of crime Maimane said the DA would add an additional 15 000 trained police officers to the current service in Gauteng.

He also told the small crowd of just below 200 that those who receive RDP (Reconstruction and Development Programme) houses should receive the title deeds and not just lease holds from the municipality.
As Maimane touched on housing and health the ANC crowd outside were still singing.

“The polls showed today that the ANC will get less than 50 per cent of the vote in Gauteng,” said Maimane to great applause.

“They are worried. Do you know how I know they are worried? They are worried because they come to our meetings trying to disturb it and poach our councillors who we were anyway going to kick out of the party”.
Maimane had the crowd in laughter when he told them “a change is as good as a holiday and the ANC deserves a holiday”.

The premiership candidate ended his speech on a serious note saying the country cannot survive another five years of the current government and that people should vote for the DA because they are the only opposition party who has shown that they could govern a province (Western Cape) successfully.
