Partner in crime shot dead during house robbery

“Possibility that accomplice pulled trigger” – police.

The Florida Police is investigating a rather strange case of house robbery and murder after two suspects targeted a house, one of them eventually ending up dead.

During the early hours of Wednesday morning 26 March, members of the Florida South African Police Service (SAPS) responded to a house robbery and shooting in Dan Pienaar Street, Florida Hills.

On arrival at the scene they found that one of the suspects (26 years old) was lying in a pool of blood.

The suspect eventually was taken to Leratong Hospital by ambulance, where he passed on. It is believed that the suspect who ran away is responsible for his accomplice’s death considering no firearm was found on the scene.

The owner of the main house and a family member living in a room in the backyard was unharmed.

According to Florida SAPS spokesperson Captain Lydia Dikolomela, “At around 2am two suspects, one armed with a firearm entered a room in the backyard of the premises.

“The complainant (52) says he was inside the room playing Playstation when the men entered. The door was unlocked. One of the suspects spoke English and the other Afrikaans, demanding cash and a laptop pointing a firearm at him. The suspects then tied him up with shoelaces and ransacked the room. They took his cellphone, two chains, a bobbejaan spanner and torch.

“While being tied up, the complainant heard two gunshots after the men had left. Eventually freeing himself, making his way outside and up a hill the complainant found that one of the suspects was shot.

“The owner of the main house in the meanwhile contacted a local neighbourhood watch and soon police arrived at the scene. It is still not known as to who shot the suspect. The police is investigating two cases, one of house robbery and another of murder.”
