JPSA launch campaign to protect Public Protector

Public Protector's importance highlighted.

Not only does the office of Public Protector tackle high profile cases like Nkandla but also fight for the common man on the street.

The independence and integrity of the Protector is therefore highly important for all South Africans. (A Roodepoort resident recently got the Public Protector involved in his billing problems with The City of Johannesburg.

Due to the constant politically motivated attacks on her, Justice Project South Africa (JPSA) has now launched a campaign called “Hands off our Public Protector”.

JPSA has called on the public to rally behind this campaign.

Chairperson of JPSA Howard Dembovsky has emphasized though that JPSA will refuse political parties to hijack the campaign.

“This will not be a protest as such, but more of a public show of support. We feel that the Public Protector could do with some support for the essential work that she and her office does and sending the message out to her detractors to lay off is equally important,” says Dembovsky.

Dembovsky has also distanced JPSA from a similar campaign by the Freedom Front Plus (FF+).

A march is planned for April some time, and details will be announced.
