A Ruimsig resident was arrested and detained for speeding on the N1 on Sunday 23 March.

A Porsche Panamera was pulled over and a man (40) arrested for speeding on the N1 near the Maraisburg off-ramp on Sunday 23 March.

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar explained that before 10am the man was pulled over and arrested for driving at 202 kilometres per hour in a 120 kilometre zone.

“The man, who resides in Ruimsig, was arrested by the JMPD High Speed Unit and later detained at the Florida Police Station,” he told the Record.

The man was driving the Panamera without registration plates and with an expired permit for the vehicle.

“He is due to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court for reckless and negligent driving and operating an unregistered and unlicensed vehicle.”

Minnaar told the Record that on Sunday seven other motorists also were arrested for speeding on the same stretch of the N1.

“They were all driving in excess of 161 kilometres per hour.”

Captain Lydia Dikolomela, spokesperson of the Florida police, confirmed that the man had been detained and later released on bail, but she is yet to confirm his court date.
