SANBS honours their supporters

A regal evening for a noble cause.

Few causes are more noble to support than donating blood.

On 22 March the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) honoured their donors at the Egoli West Donor Awards, held at Usambara in Muldersdrift.

Everyone – from youngsters who have managed to reach the 25 donations mark, to their top donor who has reached the 325 donation mark – was awarded with medals and gifts.

The accomplishment of Felix Nel, who was the only person to have reached the 325 mark, is so much more remarkable, considering that donors can donate only every second month, which means that to reach this mark it will take a person more than 40 years of donating.

Over and above thanking their faithful supporters, Alex Christian who is the Chairman of the Board of Directors, delivered an impassioned plea for more people to donate blood since the country is constantly on the brink of a crisis, especially over holiday periods when the demand outstrips the supply.
