The Right2Know (R2K) Campaign recently has released a statement in which they strongly condemn incidents of police brutality.

According to the collective who prefer not to be identified individually, incidents of police brutality have risen by 313 per cent in the past 10 years.

They also asked the question whether these incidents were not incited by the President and Minister of Police when they made the call that protests be policed more vigilantly to curb “threats to national security”.

The campaign further laid the blame on the fact that legal avenues to resolve problems have, in some instances, been closed off through corruption, politicking and incompetence.

The R2K Campaign called for demilitarising the police and for stopping the increased use of paramilitary units to supplement protest policing.

The campaign has asked for a full and independent inquiry into these incidents and for officers responsible to face the consequences of their actions.
