Elections 2014: African Christian Democratic Party

Party to push family values as its core.

The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), which was founded in 1993 and still is being led by Reverend Kenneth Meshoe, announced its 2014 election manifesto on 22 February.

The ACDP bases its policies on Christian principles that reflect social conservatism and economic liberalism and focuses on social issues such as homosexuality, pornography and abortion.

In its manifesto it announced, not much unlike the DA and the ANC, that the core issues that it will address are unemployment, poverty, inequality, violence and corruption plus “sub-standard” education and health care.

It also will aim to strengthen and protect family values without which it says the South African society’s moral compass will not be restored. It also hopes to restore dignity and investor confidence.

The party’s commitment to its electorate includes the following:

• Boost employment by setting an annual economic growth target of seven per cent

• Establish a professional public service, quality education and vocational training for sustained skills development

• Review the cumbersome regulatory environment that handicaps small business and entrepreneurs

• Review government expenses and “eliminate wasteful, irregular and corrupt expenditure”

• Review the e-toll system and seek alternative funding models such as the fuel levy to finance road construction and maintenance
