Police, security personnel and elderly woman nail thieves

Three criminals brought to book in joint effort.

Three men who managed to break into a home and flee with goods eventually were arrested following joint efforts by police and security personnel on Wednesday afternoon 19 February.

The house was robbed in Weltevreden Park, but police and security personnel gave chase, eventually managing to apprehend the criminals in Maraisburg.

Beagle Watch Armed Response Operation Manager, Jakes Shakung explains that, “One of our patrollers on duty in the Weltevreden Park area spotted a perturbed elderly woman, believed to be in her early 60s, running from a house and pointing at a 1400 bakkie.

“He immediately gave chase, informed police and called for backup. Soon he was joined by at least two or three patrol vehicles from Beagle and the SAPS, who cornered and arrested the suspects in Carthew Street in Maraisburg.”

Shakung added that, “During the robbery, the suspects had tied up the gardener and locked him in a room in the house. The elderly woman who alerted our patrol officer sustained only a few bruises.”

According to Florida South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Captain Lydia Dikolomela, “The men are aged 25, 28 and 33 and have been charged with house robbery. They will appear in court soon.”

Dikolomela added that some of the stolen items included a 54 inch LG flat-screen television, three iPods, three laptops, a pair of grand boots, a kettle, a pricy handbag, a pair of jeans, two blankets and two cellphones.
