Minnaar: William Nicol will be monitored

More and larger trucks on William Nicol Road another tragedy waiting to happen?

Serious complaints from a resident have resulted in a promise that JMPD officers will monitor William Nicol Road.

DesireƩ Mansfield could not believe her eyes when she was travelling along Ontdekkers Road towards the end of January.

“Believe me, this was not the first time I have witnessed trucks still making use of William Nicol Road; this happens on a daily basis.”

She told the Record the story of how she witnessed an 18-wheeler truck turning left from Ontdekkers Road into William Nicol Road on Thursday 30 January and was adamant that JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar should take note of what’s happening. Mansfield had reported a similar incident to the Record during August last year after which a conversation with Minnaar merely resulted in a comment that the signage was visible.

“The signage was clearly visible from Ontdekkers Road when you turn into William Nicol Road,” the email response had stated.

An outraged Mansfield said that trucks would continue to use the road since “nobody sees these stupid little sign boards as they are oblivious to passing traffic, they are not visible enough [sic]”.

“We will see just how proud [Minnaar] is of how clear the sign boards are when a horrifying accident repeats itself [sic].”

After Minnaar was confronted with these comments, he stated that “the Commander of the area, Superintendent Sebiloane has been requested to deploy officers to monitor the situation”.
