Hoërskool Die Adelaar welcomes 240 Grade 8s

… and in true Adies tradition.

Approximately 240 new Grade 8s have signed up to join the Hoërskool Die Adelaar (Adies) family for the 2014 school year.

According to the very happy principal of the school, Dries Wilters, “These pupils received the warmest of welcomes in true Adies fashion and tradition a day before the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) schools officially opened on 15 January. And, in order to help these pupils integrate into the school, we developed a special programme.

“This programme was designed not only to welcome the pupils but to get them accustomed to the new environment. It also helps to build a sense of belonging and pride.”

Apart from the exceptional welcome, pupils had a tour of the school grounds and their subject teachers were introduced. Each pupil received a ‘survival guide’, a booklet consisting of questions pertaining to the school.

The new pupils since have gathered every day during second break, where they are taught the school Code of Honour and are given activities to encourage teamwork.

“We have found that activities such as these are invaluable to their academic, sport and cultural success and we are excited to see what this group of pupils will achieve,” Dries said.
