Another potential accident hot-spot uncovered

Motorists and pedestrians warned to be cautious.

Although the Record has stated before that reporting on every single problem in the city would be an exercise in futility and impossible, there are cases that are warranted by the potential danger it holds for residents.

Resident Buks Venter has brought a gaping manhole at the T-junction of Raath Street and De La Rey Street to the Record’s attention.

Although he reported the problem to the municipality on 23 December 2013, nothing has been done about it yet.

The position of the open manhole in Raath Street is such that there is a very good chance of it leading to more than one potentially dangerous scenarios. Venter, who is a retired policeman, says that years’ experience has brought him to the conclusion that all the dynamics are in place for a serious accident to happen at this spot.

What is worrying also is that the uncovered manhole is right at a primary school, which poses a whole different set of dangers.

In the meanwhile residents have taken it upon themselves to warn the public by placing a piece of white wood into the hole, hoping that this will make it visible to road users.
