Pothole causes concern

WELTEVREDEN PARK - Pothole neglected for two years

Residents in Weltevreden Park are fed up with a large pothole in Noupit Avenue.

Ursula Bennett lives nearby Noupit Avenue and said the pothole has been neglected by the Johannesburg Roads Agency for two years and is growing in size. Bennett added there appears to be a water leak directly under the pothole.

Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin is flabbergasted by the size of the pothole. “We have been in a constant fight with the agency for the last year and nothing has been done to rectify the matter. The problem now is that the hole is growing in size due to the fact that it is filled with water.”

Tonkin added Joburg Water has to first fix the leakage before the roads agency can repair the pothole. “This will make the repair take longer and residents will have to continue to use the pavement to navigate around the large pothole.”

Joburg Water spokesperson Millicent Kabwe confirmed she received complaints and reference numbers concerning the leakage and the entity will repair the leak before it worsens the condition of the pothole.
