HORISON - Bacon & Egg Toastmasters host first 2014 meeting

On Saturday 18 January Bacon & Egg Toastmasters met at the Meet and Eat restaurant at Village at Horizon View Shopping Centre. The meeting began with some familiar traditions, including the toast of the morning. Chairman Jerry Mathaba gave the toast, dedicating it to former president Nelson Mandela.

The meeting’s theme was Dans mon Jardin, (In the Garden) and the word of the day was ’embellish.’ Members were expected to use this word continuously during the course of the meeting. There members presented speeches and were evaluated by all at the meeting. A prize giving took place at the end of the meeting, with Ria Hughes being named best speaker of the day. Best table topic went to Hendrina Khanyile, a first-time visitor to the club.

Vice president of public relations for the club, Glen Campbell, explained that Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organisation that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping individuals improve their communication, public speaking and leadership skills. “Through its thousands of member clubs, Toastmasters International offers a programme of communication and leadership projects designed to help people learn the art of speaking, listening, and thinking.”

The next Bacon and Egg Toastmasters meeting will be held on Saturday 8 February at 8.30 am at the Meet and Eat Restaurant, Village at Horizon View Shopping Centre.
