More cable theft and power outages

ROODEPOORT - Power goes off in the morning and remains off the entire day

Roodepoort residents have experienced power outages since December, and City Power blames cable theft.

The entity’s spokesperson Sol Masolo added that various sub-stations in the area need replacing too.

Wilgeheuwel resident Tienie Venter said, “The power goes out early in the mornings at around 7am and stays off the entire day. The Joburg Connect hotline is useless as you sit on the line the entire day and when an operator eventually answers they are not able to help you.”

Masolo was unable to say when the problem will be fixed, but encouraged residents to report problems via the hotline.

“Cable theft and vandalism is a recurring problem in the area. City Power will replace the cables that have been vandalised or stolen,” Masolo said.

“However our long-term solution is to apply concrete over the area where cables are running to make it difficult for cable thieves to steal them. The concreting is a process and is going to take time before it will be completed.”
