Education is key — Mustard Seed Project

Teach the community by supporting the Mustard Seed Project, says Heydon.

The Mustard Seed Project seeks to enrich residents by way of education, twice-awarded Nedbank Local Hero Reverend Harry Heydon explained to the Record on Tuesday 14 January.

Heydon forms part of a team that leads the Mustard Seed Project in training residents on essential subjects such as growing a vegetable garden to feed families or earn an income, dispelling HIV/ Aids myths, basic medical care with household materials, overcoming sexual addiction and healing for the sexually abused.

The project was launched by Peniel Training Center in Florida Park, which is a registered member of Unashamedly Ethical. The Isom curriculum that they offer is spread over three days (mornings or evenings) with each session lasting around two and a half hours. The course is facilitated by a group of volunteers who donate their time, skills and talents to the project. Each subject is taught by professionals such as qualified doctors and horticulturalists, among other. The Sexual Wholeness segment is taught by Dr Doug Weiss, head of the American Association of Sex Therapists who has been featured as a special guest on television shows such as Dr Phil, Good Morning America and Oprah.

“The late Nelson Mandela was very staunch in his belief that education is the key to bringing positive change in individuals.

“This community training has the capability to begin the change that Mandela sought – it could very well be the beginning of the moral transformation that the country desperately needs,” was Heydon’s opinion.

“These Mustard Seed Project training courses are available to all South African residents irrespective of educational standard, age, race, religion or gender.”
