Warning: Potholes to look out for

Be on the lookout for these nasties.

Although it is nearly impossible to chart the location of every pothole in Roodepoort, some ever so often pose a bigger risk than others.

The Record would like to draw the attention of motorists, motorcyclists and the ever-increasing number of scooters riders to the following four potholes.

Driving up from Wilgerood Road on Crous Street, there is a giant pothole in the left-hand lane just before the first bend. Recently it was filled with sand only and after the December rains it is rearing its ugly head again. What makes it especially dangerous, bar its size, is the fact that you can not see oncoming traffic when you swerve around it.

Two especially nasty ones are right opposite each other in two opposing lanes on Kingfisher Street just before the Hipermart. Because they are opposite each other, drivers who try to avoid them at the same time run a very big risk of colliding.

Finally there is a pothole on Crane Street as you turn from Ontdekkers Road into the left-hand lane. This one is especially deceptive at night.

These scourges of failed service delivery not only can damage your vehicle severely but are potentially deadly for those who use two-wheel transport.
