Pothole adamant it’s staying

RUIMSIG - Hole-In-One Avenue's resident pothole

A pothole in Hole-In-One Avenue has Ruimsig residents up in arms. The pothole, which has been a recurring problem for six to seven years, is located just outside Jim & Jerry’s driving range.

“Customers complain about the mass pothole, but the problem is never solved as it keeps coming back. On one occasion I drove straight into it, it hooked my car wheel and sent me directly into the pole,” said Steven Blacklock, owner and manager at Jim & Jerry’s.

Many of Blacklock’s customers have complained that they have either ridden into the pothole or have nearly had an accident trying to avoid it.

“My concern is that over the years the pothole has been repaired, but never properly fixed and so the problem keeps coming back,” said driving range regular Derick Anderson.

The road is especially dangerous at night when cars speed down the the avenue, unaware of the pothole.

“You are dead in the water and can be killed instantly if you hit that pothole riding a motorcycle”, said another regular, Corne Fourie, who rides a motorcycle. “They need to get a proper engineer and have a proper plan of action, even if you are not going that fast, all you need is for your front wheel to fall into that pothole and it will send you flying off your bike.”

“Hamberg depot will be repairing the pothole on Hole in One [Avenue] in Ruimsig before the week ends,” said Johannesburg Road Agency’s Ntsikelelo Ngubeni.
