Country stars shine bright

RUIMSIG - Country Magic wows the crowd at Silverstar

Country music fans were treated to the show of a lifetime when singers like Lance James, Barbara Ray, Sally Vaughn, Clive Bruce and Tommy Dell performed at Silverstar Casino on 16 December.

The show, called “Country Magic,” opened with a line-dance by the Rodeo Girls. Tommy Dell performed three songs and ended his performance with a song entitled, ‘Teddy Bear.’ He then returned to Cape Town owing to ill health.

Singer Lance James said, “Earlier on Monday morning Dell gave me a call and he had no voice, it surprised me that he pitched up and continued singing although he struggled with his voice. That’s what makes him a true artist.”

The show’s promoter Lydia Winchester explained the theatre was packed and fans were singing along to every song. “It surprised me that fans showed up on a public holiday to support these amazing country singers,” she said.

Newcomers Chantel Williams and Henri van Vuuren were nervous during their first performances, but soon eased into their songs and had the crowd up on their feet by the end of the night.

Fans had the opportunity to interact with their favourite stars after the show.

“The show was such a big success and I can’t wait for the second show that will take place in March at Carnival City,” said the show’s organiser, Mara van der Bergh.
