Time to claim your pothole pound of flesh

Public can claim for pothole damage to vehicles.

Local resident Ralph Dippenaar is at the end of his tether.

For the second time in two weeks he had to suffer damage to his vehicle due to the ever-deteriorating state of the roads in South Africa.

Two weeks ago he had to replace a tyre after driving through a pothole in Centurion and then again on 11 December on Albertina Sisulu Road, opposite the Jumbo Butchery.

What grates Dippenaar and other readers who complained about this monster pothole is the fact that it also is a favourite spot for JMPD to sit at and trap motorists, yet they will not put in the effort to at least put up some warning signs or direct the traffic away from the pothole.

Dippenaar told the Record that when it rains the pothole fills up and looks like a puddle, although the pothole is at least 50cm deep.

Motorist who suffer damages to their vehicles as a result of potholes are reminded again that they can claim from the City of Johannesburg. In order to do so, contact Bonolo Ramohlala on 011 298 5148 or at bramohlala@jra.org.za.
