Departments finally pay overdue R5 million

Overdue payments finally reached the security company, enabling them to pay employees' salaries before Christmas.

After initial investigations into a case where a security company is unable to pay its employees because of non-payment by their government department clients, the Record can confirm that this local company has received its R5 million.

Two government departments, which the managing director wished not to name, owed the company R5 million on 6 December, without which the company was unable to pay its employees and other operational costs.

The employees have not received salaries for October, November or December yet, however, the managing director confirmed that the company received their money a week after the Record initially reported on the matter.

“We hope to start paying overdue salaries to our employees by tomorrow (Friday 13 December) and throughout next week.

“Let us take care of our debts and employees.”

The managing director mentioned that a similar incident occurred in 2010 when one of the company’s accounts was outstanding for a period of three months, causing similar havoc.

“I’ll be lying if I were to tell you that it would never happen again,” said the concerned businessman, “but we engaged about it with the respective departments.”

A source closely related to one of the affected employees confirmed that they received the same information in a meeting on Thursday 12 December.

“The employees hope to be compensated for October’s salary by Friday, and hopefully the rest will follow as it should.”
