Wilro Lions sing seasonal songs

The Wilro Lions enjoy a last night in 2013 together.

The Lions Club of Wilro Park joined hands with their friends and family for the last time this year at their community centre in Roodekrans on Sunday 8 December.

The Lions gathered at the Wilro Lions Community Centre in Belladonna Street to enjoy sing-along Christmas carols, a few solos and a special tradition. At around 6.30pm Lions member Sandy van Heerden quieted down the crowd to welcome everyone, “to a casual night of song, food and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ”.

Special guest Thabisile Nkosi opened the night with a few special solo carol performances, followed by Graham Short and Duncan Hamilton teaming up to provide guitar music so that everyone can sing along.

Songs like Oh little town of Bethlehem and Kom alle getroues were followed by Thabisile performing a Zulu song called Ukuthula (“Peace”) in honour and memory of Nelson Mandela, former state president who passed away on 5 December.

The jolly singing inside was followed by a Wilro Lions tradition of holding candles while the children serenade the audience, followed by decorating an outside Christmas tree.

“This tree will be lit up from now until the end of the holiday season.

“We hold this event every year to celebrate and remember our past members who have made such a big impact, and former Lion Molly Francis who was a dedicated member for 25 years.

“May your Christmas be filled with love, peace and joy.”
