St Nicholas visits Norbert’s

The Festive Season was welcomed at Norbert's German Butchery in Wilro Park.

Norbert’s German Butchery welcomed St Nicholas and the Festive Season to Wilro Park on Friday 6 December.

Owners Norbert and Charmaine Hinsberger felt it was time to do their bit for the community. Every year they pick a charity to benefit from their Christmas celebrations at the Butchery. This year St Laurence’s in Horizon View was the fortunate organisation.

“This day was our way of giving back to our loyal customers and our beautiful community.

“We were very happy to hand over profits made from the candles that were sold on Friday as a donation to the organisation,” Charmaine told the Record.

The NG Kerk Wilgespruit entertained those attending with Christmas carols and craft stalls were available. What made the celebrations so special was the presence of St Nicholas, who inspired Santa Clause, explained Charmaine.

“We wanted to bring the classic European story back to link to Christmas.

“St Nicholas was the figure that inspired the creation of Santa Clause. He was a very rich man that became a monk and served his community by giving away all his riches.”

St Nicholas was a burly man in a purple outfit who handed out candy and balloons to the children attending.

“In a big way Christmas has become about presents and the receiving of them, but for us it’s about giving.”
