Friends of Kloofendal's history guide Rod Kruger is gaga for gold

Rod Kruger became involved with Friends of Kloofendal five years ago and is currently the history guide at Kloofendal Nature Reserve.

The Constantia Kloof resident said he finds what he does very interesting and taught himself as much about the history of South African gold-mining as he possible could. “I have visited as many of the historical sites as I can and have also been very deep down some modern gold mines.”

He previously worked as an aircraft technician for South African Airways. Following that he gave three years of his life to the Methodist Mission in Kwa-Zulu Natal, where he worked as an aircraft pilot.

He later studied at the South African Broadcasting Cooperation and Rand Afrikaans University (now the University of Johannesburg) and qualified as a television cameraman. He still works as a freelance cameraman and also lectures at universities and corporate companies on the history of gold mining in the country.

Besides for gold and cameras, Kruger enjoys photography and ballroom dancing, and has a passion for coffee shops.
