A nature-loving alert resident, Duncan Gohl, drew the Record’s attention to an unsavoury practice that is taking place at West Ways Shopping Centre on Ouklip Road.
A gutter has been implemented from the fence of the centre running from the skip waste container into the spruit (brook) next to Hercules Close.
It appears as if the gutter is there to serve as a means to dump rubbish into the stream.
The Record spoke to Tony Palau of the centre’s management. According to Palau the centre did place the gutter there but for water drainage and not for rubbish disposal. He expressed his dismay at this practice and said that management will address the problem with tenants.
