Taxi commuters have a long walk ahead of them

Route cut as roads near Cradlestone Mall become a nuisance for taxi drivers

Newly-developed roads at Cradlestone Mall inconvenience taxi commuters travelling on Hendrik Potgieter road.

Countless commuters work in this area and have been told by drivers that taxis will no longer be travelling this route. Previously taxi routes extended past the mall through to Featherbrooke.

“It’s an absolute nightmare. My domestic worker, Shelia, is forced to walk an additional 45 minutes to an hour in her journey home on each trip. She has to walk 1km uphill to the Sasol garage and then on to Pine Haven, because the taxis are only going as far as Cradlestone Mall now,” said resident Maureen Trevenen.

In addition, taxis drivers refuse to offer a reduction in fare, despite the fact that the route is now significantly shorter.

“When I said to Shelia, you and the commuters must stand up to the taxi drivers, she replied by saying, “It is difficult to stand up to taxi drivers when they are generally rude and have no respect for the commuters’.”
