Cradlestone Mall opens its doors

A new centre with tons on offer, Northside welcomes it's second mega mall.

The new Cradlestone Mall opening took place on 20 November amid a flurry of shoppers and curious onlookers.

Mogale City’s Executive Mayor, Koketso Calvin Seeran, was present to deliver a speech and cut the ribbon, along with individuals from investors Sasol Pension Fund, Pivotal Property Fund and Retail Africa.

Although only one half of the mall is complete and open to patrons, festive shoppers can look forward to a novel experience this December.

Just short of 200 stores opened their doors on the day, each one offering great opening specials, savings and vouchers. These include Pick n Pay, Woolworths, Dion Wired, Game – including FoodCo, and Edgars, to name a few. A Food Lovers Market and a Dischem is set to open in May 2014 by which time the rest of the mall should be complete.

“Cradlestone Mall’s shopping appeal, unique and fresh design, ease of access, entertainment, leisure and total experience makes it an exciting prospect for shoppers from across the region and beyond,” said Sasol Pension Fund’s general manger, Andries Schaap.

Not only does the mall boast a state-of-the-art Ster-Kinekor theatre which includes a 3D screen, tech-savvy shoppers can also enjoy free Wi-Fi throughout the centre. Said Schaap: “Backed by modern technology, convenience and comprehensive choice, Cradlestone Mall offers a complete and engaging experience for all shoppers.”

About R60 million was invested to improve the roads in and around the mall. Hendrik Potgieter Road will be widened, and the interchange corner Hendrik Potgieter Road and the R28 highway will be upgraded. In addition, a new slip road has been built coming off the N14 from Randburg, allowing shoppers direct access to the lower entrances of the mall.

The effects of these modifications is yet to be seen, however it is almost certain it will heavily impact road users travelling on Hendrik Potgieter Road and the N14.

If the two big shopping centers along Hendrik Potgieter Road were to be compared, both Cradlestone and Clearwater malls have an Edgars, a Game, a Woolworths and a Typo stationery store. Both have music stores Musica and Look & Listen, and both have movie cinemas. Cradlestone boasts a Super CD store and an arcade, putting the new centre in the lead. However, Clearwater Mall currently has 51 clothing stores, while Cradlestone Mall has 35. But that figure is set to double in the coming year.

One thing is for sure, Northside shoppers are spoilt for choice.
