New runway, new opportunities

New three kilometre runway is one of many new features at Lanseria International Airport

A new runway has been built at Lanseria International Airport.

The runway opens up opportunity for growth and at 3km long makes the airport accessible to larger aircraft.

The new runway project took just over a year to complete and cost about R150 million. This is just one of the many improvements made to the international airport.

“Ongoing improvements and new facilities will ensure the longevity of the airport. The entire customer experience has been enriched,” said Gavin Sayce, CEO of the airport. “We are constantly upgrading and extending facilities as our business grows.”

World-class facilities include duty-free shopping, lounge facilities, ample parking and self-service kiosks.

“Currently the only schedules operating from Lanseria to domestic destinations are Mango and Kulula, but this is set to change in the future,” said the airport’s marketing and media manager Claudette Viamello said. “We are in talks with many other airlines to operate from Lanseria and this will in turn bring more schedules and ultimately more destinations.

“Ultimately this has an advantageous ripple effect on the economy of the community. More passengers, bring more of a budget to spend. This will have a positive spin off on retail, tourism, shopping, medical services, businesses and transport said.”
