Brickz allegedly threatened to kill victim

State will contest the bail application owing to concerns that the kwaito star will intimidate witnesses.

The kwaito star Sipho Brickz Ndlovu appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court for a bail application on 12 November.

The state opposed the bail application on the grounds that Ndlovu would ‘intimidate witnesses’ and that he might be a flight risk.

During the court precedings Ndlovu allegedly contradicted his initial statement and it came to the fore that he has previously paid an admittance of guilt fee after being caught with drugs.

The artist has been in police custody since 1 November facing a rape charge after an incident that took place in March. The accuser is a 16-year-old relative of the musician who allegedly was a regular visitor to the upmarket Ruimsig home of the accused and his wife Nqobile Ndlovu.

According to reports Ndlovu’s wife alongside the girl’s father opened the rape case against him at the Honeydew Police Station.

It is alleged that the kwaito star instructed the victim on the day of the alleged rape to prepare food for his daughter. He then allegedly started yelling at her after which he pinned her to the bed and raped her. Afterwards he told her that he would kill her if she told anyone.

Ndlovu’s wife noticed that the girl’s behaviour changed and by July her school marks had dropped dramatically. She interrogated the girl after she saw a drawing depicting a rape that the girl had made. Although the girl at first refused to talk, she allegedly ticked Brickz name on a list of possible suspects.

In the meanwhile Ndlovu’s wife and daughter have moved out of their house. Ndlovu had past brushes with the law and is a self confessed cocaine addict who claims to have kicked his habit.

The bail hearing has been postponed until 13 November.
