Panorama wins Double Wicket cricket competition

Home team beats the title defenders

Panorama Primary recently held its annual Double Wicket cricket competition, and it was the home team taking the trophy this year.

Cliffview Primary, Constantia Primary, Bryanston Primary and Weltevreden Park Primary were invited to compete, with a slightly new spin on the classic sport.

Each team nominated their best all-rounders, four specialist fielders and one specialist wicket keeper. As per normal, two batsmen played against a bowler from an opposing team, but the fielders, wicket keepers and umpires were from the other teams, keeping things friendly and neutral.

They collected points by playing four games on a round-robin basis. A prize giving ceremony was held afterward, where winners were announced according to the amount of points accumulated. Panorama’s team – consisting of Brandon du Plooy and Emmanuel Masina – won the tournament, with Cliffview coming second.

“We are looking forward to next year’s challenge,” said Panorama cricket coach, Steve Bezuidenhout.
