Woman (44) critical following serious collision near Westgate

AER24 called in to assist.

A 44-year-old woman sustained critical injuries following a two-vehicle collision on Crous Street near Westgate Shopping Centre this morning, Monday 14 October.

“The woman and a colleague were on their way to work when a bakkie collided into the passenger side of the VW Citi Golf they were travelling in, ” says ER24’s Vanessa Jackson.

“The woman was left trapped in the passenger seat of the vehicle and she had suffered critical injuries. Paramedics immediately started to stabilise her while the Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to remove the wreckage from around her.

“While paramedics continued to stabilise the woman, they called in the assistance of AER24, so that once she was removed from the wreck, she could be transported to hospital immediately. AER24 landed on the landing pad of the Westgate Shopping Centre and she was airlifted to Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital for further care.

“Fortunately, neither the driver of the Citi Golf, nor the driver of the bakkie suffered any physical injuries and they did not require further medical care. They later left the scene privately.

“The cause of the collision and which party was at fault remain to be investigated by local authorities who attended the scene.”
