Annetjie Nel, owner of Medi Square pharmacy in Constantia Square, was hijacked on Monday evening at her Roodekraans home.

It appears the alleged criminals followed her from the pharmacy.

“It was around 7:15 pm when I arrived home. As I drove in, I noticed a white BMW behind my car in the driveway blocking me,” explained Nel.

Before she realised what was happening, a man was pointing a gun at her through the car window.

“Luckily I was talking to my husband on the phone. I immediately threw it on the passenger seat and he was able to hear what was going on.”

The hijacker forced her to get into the white BMW and instructed her to lie down before they drove off.

One of the criminals drove off in her Land Rover Discovery 4.

Aware of what was happening to Nel, her husband, who was in Zimbabwe at the time, called relatives for help.

“He couldn’t call Tracker because he was out of the country and couldn’t go through 0800 with an international number.”

Nel said she cooperated fully with the criminals. They asked for her bank card and pin number which she gave to them.

They withdrew money from her account, took her jewellery and cellphone, and dropped Nel off in Soweto where she received help.

“I was calm throughout the ordeal and went into the nearest home. The residents gave me support and I called my relatives from their phone. This proves that there are good people in this country.”

Although traumatised, Nel has forgiven the criminals.

“All I’m praying for is for them to rectify their mistakes, I thank God and all the glory should be given to Him”.
