Routine roadblock

Just another roadblock on Hendrik Potgieter

The accident on Hendrik Potgieter Road on Monday 23 September was not the only reason for an increase in traffic congestion.

In conjunction to the hold-up owing to the accident, motorists had to add a few more minutes to their travel time due to a JMPD roadblock.

Spokesperson for JMPD Edna Mamonyane said it was an ordinary routine road block. “Our officers carry out different road blocks every day to make sure that motorists are in good standing with the traffic laws.”

On 23 September a total of 1706 cars drove through the road block and more than 500 cars were pulled over. Mamonyane said nothing out of the ordinary was found. “With some of our roadblocks we find that people have false number plates,” explained Mamonyane. Among other things, JMPD officers were checking for outstanding fines, issued warrants of arrests and expired license discs.
