The last time Honeydew Ridge resident Bill Bayes’s postbox saw any mail was in March. A resident in the area for 10 years, Bayes has always had a problem receiving mail.

“I tried different avenues to make sure that I receive my letters but nothing is helping,” Bayes explained. He has approached the mailing centre in Roodepoort but was sent from pillar to post without his problem being resolved.

Bayes is not receiving important correspondence like his municipal accounts and letters from friends and family overseas. The negligence and literacy of the postmen are also questionable matters. “I always receive the wrong letters and ask myself whether the postmen can read at all. For all I know my letters could be sitting in someone else’s post box.”

Although he’s been able to phone service providers for account statements to determine how much he owes, there still much outstanding. “There are some crucial documents like my will that I have not received.”

The post office had not yet responded to questions sent to them at the time of going to press.
