The spring garden donated to the Harveston Retirement Village by Honeydew Ridge optometrist Chris Sutherland was celebrated with a lunch at the village on 7 September. “I have many clients who live there and I wanted to give them something. I wanted to bring a ‘spring sparkle’ to the village.”

Sutherland joined forces with Riaan du Plooy from Princess Groot Bome Nursery.

“We want to serve the greater community as a form of gratitude for their support. I also wanted to go old school, back to the days when people knew their doctors personally. Nowadays you hear people saying, ‘I am going to the doctor/optometrist’. It would be nice if people were to say they were on their way to Chris.” Du Plooy and Sutherland produced a garden with spring plants for the village’s residents to enjoy, and they loved seeing their excitement.

“It was a treat to see the sparkle in the residents’ eyes as their new garden was unveiled to them. I hope it has that effect every day”, said Sutherland.
