Unique care centre opens at Waterval Village

Spring Day comes with grand, revamped facilities at Waterval Village.

Waterval Village was excited to share the opening of their new Unique Health Care Centre with the Record on Sunday 1 September.

On Spring Day the Village was happy to treat their residents to a tour of the new facilities and wine in celebration of their recent accomplishments.

Waterval Village manager Kon van der Westhuizen told the Record that they were happy in the decision that they made to change the management of their care centre to Unique Health. The management of the facilities was agreed upon and handed over to Unique Health in July, at which time the total revamp commenced.

“This place looked old and the facilities weren’t maximised so as to care for maximum patients.

“There were rooms we didn’t use to their full capacity and this revamp changed the layout and brought about innovative facilities and treatment.

According to Van Der Westhuizen and Unique Health’s Élise Porter an additional 80 square metres were added to the facility, that now boasts 30 beds, a rehabilitation centre and aftercare facilities.

“Around 1.3 million was spent on the overhaul of this centre, but we did so with the greatest enthusiasm,” Van der Westhuizen told the Record.

“We hope to offer the best care for Waterval Village residents and are excited to open our doors and hearts to them,” Porter later said.

She says that, by Sunday, 10 residents had already moved in to the care centre for treatment.

Further development plans are currently being discussed, according to Porter, that doesn’t want to reveal any more just yet.

The Village later treated the Record, themselves and other residents to a three-course lunch made by their new chef Brett Murray, which they were excited to announce.

“I just know that he was the man for the job the moment we interviewed him, and the proof is in the pudding,” Porter said just before the ribbon was cut at the official opening ceremony.

“We are still busy with the final touches on some of the rooms but I trust that our nurses and other stuff are happy and excited to report for work on Monday morning.”
