Vehicle ownership agreement turns sour

Man allegedly drives off with car while still owing woman (82) R14 250.

An 82-year-old woman has asked the South African Police Service (SAPS) to help her to find her vehicle after an agreement with a former tenant of hers allegedly turned sour.

Florida SAPS spokesperson, Lydia Dikolomela confirmed that the woman has opened a case at the police station.

“The complainant stated that she gave the vehicle to a former tenant to be repaired as it was overheating. The man expressed his interest in buying the white Audi some time in future, and the parties then came to an agreement that the buyer would pay R18 000 in total. However, the man has not returned her repaired vehicle as agreed, and has paid only a small deposit of R3 750 to her. The rest of the money, according to the woman, is still outstanding,” Dikolomela explains.

“This has been going on since January … the vehicle has not been found yet.”

Dikolomela added that the man, who is believed to be 64 years of age, “… can/ may be arrested and charged for using a motor vehicle without the owners’ consent. Should police spot the vehicle and the man, he will be escorted to a police station.

“This is a decision that should be made in court as it is a civil matter.”

Anyone who spots the vehicle with registration number HSC909GP, engine number JW020301 and chassis number AAAZZZ44ZHU001890 is urged to contact the police on 011 213 9000.
