Roodepoort SAPS gets new Station Commander

On 6 August the Record had the honour of meeting the new Station Commander of Roodepoort Police Station, Brigadier Thandi Kupiso.

Brigadier Kupiso who previously was Station Commander in the Western Cape, says that her mandate mainly is service delivery and having Roodepoort SAPS interact with the community. She says that she is aware of the high levels of crime in the area and that she definitely plans on tackling it head-on.

Interestingly she wants to engage with informal business because according to her this sector of the community is affected most by crime.

Regarding the misconduct of SAPS members and corruption she says that she has an open door policy and should the public be able to prove such behaviour, transgressing members will be disciplined.

The Record also wanted to know what she was going to do about the drug epidemic in Roodepoort.

The Brigadier says that with this problem the SAPS relies heavily on communities to come forward with information and that they must know that it will be handled with the strictest confidentiality.
