Kilburn shop: more complaints

Kilburn shop angers residents.

As expected, more residents filed their complaints about the bit-of-everything shop in Kilburn Shopping Centre with the Record.

According to complaints to date it is alleged that the shop abducts clothing. A resident had previously complained that his trousers, handed in for alterations at this shop, went missing by the time that he went to fetch it a day later. A certain Mr Grobler shared his similar experience with the Record.

“When I dropped by the shop one of the employees were sitting outside on the sidewalk, not even behind the counter,” he explained, unsure whether this man was an employee, manager or even the owner.

“Nobody was behind that counter and eventually he came over to assist me.

“I paid R30 on that day and the man explained that the balance can be paid on collection of my jacket as it all depends on the work they need to do — thus, the second and final installment was not a certain, prediscussed amount.

“I gave it in anyway because you struggle to find places that do clothing alterations these days.”

Mr Grobler left his jacket with the men and they explained that he could fetch it the fallowing day. By the time of his return, the jacket had left the premises and was not ready for collection.

“I was furious.”

After trying to ascertain its whereabouts and insisting on collecting it, the shop staff explained to Mr Grobler that the alterations are outsourced to a man near Westgate Shopping Centre and that he was to fetch it there.

“Now I was livid. Nobody gave them permission to move my clothing elsewhere and besides, the nerve of them to say that I am responsible to fetch it from a man I had not paid!”

“That little shop is very filthy inside and one’s experience in there makes one wonder what their deal is [sic].”

Mr Grobler went the extra mile to retrieve his jacket and was lucky to find it, eventually, in its familiar condition.

A hairdresser later expressed his disgust at this shop that marks their business on their windows to be hairdressing, a doggy parlour, cellphone repairs, clothing alterations and more.

“How can they have a hairdresser and a doggy parlour in the same shop?

“There must be some health violation in that regard.”

The Record is investigating. Residents are welcome to send their opinions and experiences to journalist Mathilde Myburgh at mathildem@caxton.co.za .
