Old bus shed no more

Florida eyesore finally gone.

After another morning of a spectacular display of incompetence, the nasty old bus shed finally was demolished.

On a day that saw the eviction of vagrants (25 June), wastage of JMPD personnel’s manpower and a contractor of foreign nationality and his cohorts who seemed comically incompetent, the building was demolished.

There are contradicting accounts of what will happen to this prime piece of land at the entrance to Florida at the corner of Goldman Street and Westlake Avenue.

One group wants to retain the premises as a driving school, and there are rumours of a modern shopping mall to be constructed and a church wanting to extend their activities on the property.

Johannesburg Property Company’s (JPC) Mpho Motloung, manager and custodian for the area, says that the only plans that the City has for the property is to maximise its potential. All those interest in using the land will have to go through the required tender process.
