Collision on Randfontein Road

A taxi and vehicle collided on Randfontein Road on Friday 19 July.

A regular reader contacted the Record with information about a collision on the night of Friday 19 July.

According to her report a minibus taxi collided with a Honda Civic on Randfontein Road. The Civic allegedly attempted to turn into Randfontein Road from Quellerie Street.

“Unfortunately, the female driver of the Civic underestimated the speed at which the minibus taxi was driving and turned too soon.

“The minibus taxi hit the Civic on the back of its right-hand side. The impact caused the Honda to swirl across the road and it collided with the taxi again.

“The impact also caused the taxi to overturn twice, after which it came to a standstill on its one side.”

It is alleged that the taxi was travelling at a speed over the lawful limit. According to the eyewitness the driver and the passenger of the Civic escaped relatively unharmed, however, three passengers of the taxi sustained serious injuries. She reports that the JMPD and emergency services were on scene.

No emergency services could confirm any knowledge of the accident.

“The accident scene on Randfontein Road was blocked off and traffic was affected until around 9pm.

“I believe that this sort of collision could have been avoided if both parties travelled with more sense and responsibility.”
