Mandela Day: Cansa and the ATKV at Life Flora Clinic

Two inspired organisations do their bit for the community, and Life Flora Clinic is soon to follow.

Cansa and the ATKV contributed their 67 minutes of goodwill by working together at Life Flora Clinic on the morning of 18 July.

Cansa community mobiliser Celia Mostert invited the Record to witness their work in Ward G at Life Flora Clinic. The group of volunteers was handing out Cansa coping kits as well as flowers to patients and staff. A large cake with the words ‘Happy birthday Madiba’ in bright white icing signified everyone’s well wishes for the former president and the country.

An ATKV representative brought hand-knitted beanies with a special message on them for patients, staff and especially Life Flora Clinic public relations officer Elanie Smit.

“Thank you so much, this is so pretty,” Smit said to Chrissie, asking if she had made them.

Smit was happy to report that the Life Flora Clinic nursing staff did their 67 minutes on 18 July by serving tea and biscuits to their patients.

Smit told the Record that Life Flora Clinic will be giving back to the community on Friday 19 July when they visit Wilhelmina Hoskins Primary School in Riverlea, Johannesburg.

“Many of our staff members have volunteered to help us put in a new sand pit, paint the premises and hand out cupcakes to the pupils.

“Because Mandela did so much for this country, we felt honoured to give a little back to our patients and we look forward to doing more good deeds tomorrow.”
