Caring for the nation’s children – Baby Moses

The Baby Moses Baby Sanctuary explains how Mandela Day benefits them.

As an initiative that started only four years ago, Mandela Day presents the perfect opportunity for the nation to come together as one.

Baby Moses Baby Sanctuary is an example of how people are willing to lend a helping hand to uplift others. Co-founder Lanie de Klerk told the Record that they will be hosting Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals for the day. People from the company will be coming in to help with gardening, ironing, cooking and doing art work with the children. Carpaccio will be donating pizzas for the children to enjoy, thanks to Cherise Pedder from Mass Lift Africa.

According to Lanie, Royal HaskoningDHV already have done their bit on 16 July by doing 67 minutes of shopping at Makro. They did exceed the time, however, with the result that a large quantity of food was delivered to the house.

“We really are grateful to the community who have opened their hearts to the children of Baby Moses.”

As much as these acts of kindness go a long way there is always room for more. According to a press release sent to the Record, they have “8 homes, from suburban to rural to child-headed with all ages including a granny of ninety-two looking after 3 children [sic]”.

Donating staple food, clothes, toys that are in good condition and cleaning supplies is always helpful. Funds are essential for this NPO (non-profit organisation) which will go towards paying for operations, ad hoc medication, electricity, repairs and maintenance, fuel, school transport and clothes as well as rent.
