6 July saw the launch of a new Non Profit Organization (NPO), Fortress of Refugee Foundation (FRF), at the Huguenot restaurant in Flora centre.
This Christian NPO has a sincere desire to change the socio-economic landscape of Florida.

Husband and wife team Tammy and Leon Vermaak started out taking street kids into their home and setting up a weekly soup kitchen at the Florida taxi rank/ subway for the homeless. They proudly boast that they have not missed one Friday since March 2012.

The couple’s sincerity is tangible in a cynical world where so call do-gooders often exploit ventures like these for their own gain.

Except for some of the beneficiaries of their efforts DA Councillor Dave Dewes and Florida SAPS Spokesperson Lydia Dikolomelo was also in attendance pledging their support. Dewes even became teary eyed during his speech.

The highlight of the breakfast launch was the heart-wrenching testimonials of those youngsters who have now turned their lives around due to the Vermaak family’s selfless work.

With their vision statement of “helping and empowering the poor and destitute in demonstrating the unconditional love of Jesus Christ. Equipping them with skills and changing their status quo so they are self sustained” this is a NPO definitely worth supporting. They are desperate for any donations ranging from financial, goods and time.

FRF can be contacted on 011 672 2274 and their banking details are Nedbank, account number 1049654854, Florida, branch code 19054100, type N5000 account and their NPO number is 118-791.
