JMPD warns intoxicated drivers on Ouklip

JMPD to monitor especially Ouklip Road at night.

Drunk drivers will have to think twice before getting behind the wheel on Roodepoort roads especially if they travel along Ouklip Road, following the announcement that JMPD will beef up its presence.

Party goers have been advised rather to give their vehicle keys to a sober person (with a valid driver’s licence) or make alternative arrangements when travelling along Ouklip Road.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar has confirmed that they have taken residents’ concerns about fatal accidents on Ouklip Road to heart, considering that another two lives were lost this past weekend.

“We will try and control the situation.

“We definitely are looking at getting speeding cameras installed and will appoint a team of JMPD officers who will work at night and monitor the situation along Ouklip Road as soon as possible.”

Minnaar says that reducing the current speed limit from 60km/h to 40km/h on Ouklip Road as residents have requested has to be done by the Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA).

“Residents of the neighbourhood indeed can make such an application if they want the speed limit to be reduced.”

The Record has submitted questions to Sam Modiba of the Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) and awaits their feedback as to the process to be followed to have the speed limit reduced and have speed bumps laid.
