Black-out causes collision

The apparent black-out of an elderly motorist caused a collision.

Both Netcare 911 and ER 24 paramedics responded to a call out on the corners of Fifth Avenue and Fourth Street on the morning of 19 June.

Upon their arrival, they found that three motor vehicles had collided resulting in the serious injuries of one man.

After the injured man was treated on scene he was transported to a nearby medical facility for further assistance.

It would seem that the accident was due to an elderly motorist blacking out and crossing the busy intersection. His red vehicle came to a halt when it collided with the wall of the nursery centre on the corner.

“Exact detail to the cause of the accident remains the subject of a police investigation,” Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann told the Record.

Although a South African Police Services (Saps) vehicle was present, JMPD had not arrived by the time the Record left the scene.
