When a day filled with sunshine, golf, and lots of fun is thrown into the mix, it becomes a no-brainer to support a charitable cause.
On Thursday, September 29, Pathways Roodepoort hosted their annual Charity Golf Day at the Ruimsig Country Estate.

One hundred and thirty-four golfers grabbed their clubs and hit the course, hoping for birdies and hole-in-ones throughout the 18-hole course. After the game, the players were invited to a delicious dinner, which was attended by 140 people.

Pathways Roodepoort is a day programme for children and young adults with severe mental and physical disabilities. It is a non-profit organisation in Poortview that provides love, care, therapy, and stimulation to special-needs children. Children with severe mental and physical disabilities abound in all communities. They are, however, rarely catered for by educational institutions or special care units and as a result, they are neglected and deprived of the care and stimulation that they require. It is impossible to believe that these unique individuals cannot grow and learn.

Pathways has grown from strength to strength and has now added an advanced section to cater to individuals with higher functioning. At Pathways Roodepoort, there are no limits to anyone’s ability. Raising awareness about disabilities can be as difficult as drawing blood from a rock. As absurd as it may sound, this is actually true. People are simply unwilling to change their attitudes toward disabilities, and their general attitudes remain largely unchanged regardless of how much they are concealed. Financial insecurity is also a reality for many non-profit organisations.

Sunette Pretorius encourages everyone in the community to participate in all fundraising efforts. If you are in good enough shape to ride for a good cause, please join the Pathways Roodepoort Charity Bond and do the 947 Ride Joburg.

For more information about their centre, please contact Sunette Pretorius on 078 571 9096 or visit the Pathways Roodepoort Facebook page.
