WILGEHEUWEL – Pupils from Rainbow Valley Christian Nursery School have a fun day with play and gifts from kind-hearted people.

Little voices of excitement could be heard from afar as they knew that this Monday was no ordinary day. It was a happy mix of ages from pre-school pupils to high school pupils to adults all coming together for one common goal.

On 30 May, pupils from the Mjolnir Learning Centre in Wilgeheuwel were accompanied by members of BCI Protection Services to the Rainbow Valley Christian Nursery School in order to deliver a very special winter gift. Sunitha Fernandes, head of department of the nursery school explained that the school is a non-profit organisation.

Eveline Jones of the Mjolnir Learning Centre, a centre that provides tutoring for grades 10 – 12 pupils who can’t cope with the learning challenges of a mainstream school said that they offer a Cambridge and AS curriculum.

“Granny’s from the Ridgecrest Family Church in Radiokop knitted beanies for the pupils of Rainbow Nursery School while Epic Kids from the church made gift packs for the children,” said Jones.

The children however, did not only receive the generous gifts, but they also had a chance to be active and play round robin games with pupils from the centre. They kicked balls, played with bats and had a chance to hula-hoop. Jones said that this outreach programme provides a chance for older pupils to interact with the pupils from the nursery school.

After the fun and games, Jones told the children about the beanies knitted with love by each “granny”. The children looked very pleased to get a chance to pick out their very own beanie.

“We had the most amazing and blessed day, receiving the beanies and packs from Ridgecrest Family Church,” said Fernandes. She concluded that the pupils from the centre interacted with the pupils from the nursery school and in turn served the community with their precious time for the future of this country.
