MULTIMEDIA: Eagle House School’s fun day

It was fun and games at the Eagle House School (EHS) annual fun day held at the school’s sports field in Poortview on 3 October. Parents, pupils and teachers relaxed and had fun as celebrity performers took to the stage to entertain them.

There was a water slide for the children while parents sat under the shade enjoying the performances.

EHS teacher Johardien Choonara said that the purpose of the day was to raise money for their bursary fund in order to fund their disadvantaged pupils who couldn’t afford the fees. “It is not fair for a student to be denied quality education because they cannot afford the fees. It does not change the fact that they need that intimate attention from teachers, so we raise money in order to accommodate all of our pupils,” Choonara said.

He pointed out that the fun day was in its seventh year and since then the event has grown. Mongezi Ngcobondwana, aka Tol Ass Mo, said the

EHS Fun Day was an exciting and fun way for the school to raise funds and that it united the school with the community. Bo Denim from the singing group Denim, who performed for the first time at the fun day, said the initiative was a great idea and that it was a nice way for parents to be able to have a good time with their children.

Theo Kgosinkwe from Mafikizolo said they enjoyed giving back to the community. “We love performing at such events and not just at the big performances as we were also once in school and this gives us an opportunity to inspire the youth,” Kgosinkwe said.

Shane Dowling, a former pupil from EHS, said that he always attended the fun day as it helped children who needed an opportunity to learn. “One thing that stands out for me when I attended EHS, was the way the teachers respected us,” Dowling said.
