GALLERY: Gateway Society holds annual golf day

RUIMSIG – Ruimsig Country Club provides ideal setting for charity golf day.

The Gateway Society’s annual Charity Golf Day was, once again, a success. It was held at the Ruimsig Country Club on 3 September. According to fundraising manager, Moira Short, “Regular donors and sponsors usually attend and the day has a great turnout and this is a great way to thank them as well. This is definitely one of our biggest fundraising events – it’s an opportunity to raise as much as possible but also promote those who have helped us as much as possible.”

The Ruimsig Country Club allows charities to hold golf days on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for which Short is extremely grateful. The Gateway Society was started to help any mentally or physically disabled child to receive the best attention they can get. Short added, “We’re a holistic foundation that helps people from infancy to death. Somebody has to speak for and protect them.”

The evening featured entertainment by comedienne Nina Hastie, who kept the audience on their toes. She assisted the vice president of the Gateway Society, Walter Butterworth with fining the players for a variety of “transgressions”; all in the spirit of raising extra funds.

Prizes were donated by a number of corporates which raised a sizable sum in an auction. The feedback from the evening was extremely positive. Short, along with Ronel Barnard, the Gateway Society village manager, was deeply touched by the generosity of the guests in attendance.
