GALLERY: Blanket run a big success

STRUBEN'S VALLEY – Harley Davidson owners from across Gauteng collect blankets for less fortunate children.

The Harley (Davidson) Owners Group (HOG) from their Johannesburg and Clearwater Chapters held a blanket run on 17 May.

With winter approaching, the bikers decided to collect blankets for an organisation called Kids In Dire Straits.

Craig Hardman from Clearwater HOG said, “It was the perfect ‘excuse’ to take the Harleys out for the day and to do something good for children less fortunate.”

He added that the run started at 8am at the Johannesburg Harley Davidson on Rivonia Road in Morningside and the bikers headed off in the direction of Clearwater Harley that is located next to Clearwater Mall. “The pack of bikers was led by police escort and we headed toward the N14 highway where we joined up with members from HOG clubs in Zambezi and Pretoria, and then onto Centurion where we finally ended off the run at Sandton Square, just off Corlett Avenue.”

Hardman added that it was a sight to see as 1 300 bikers in total joined in for the charity run. “There were bikes as far as one could see ahead – it was amazing to see and hear the Harleys roaring through the streets,” said an excited Hardman.

He was not sure of the number of blankets that were collected on the day, but believes it must have been more than 1300 blankets.
